We were plannig to visit Kiso-Fukushima in Nagano for skiing last Saturday, but my wife caught a cold.. We stayed home.
Actually, Kiso-Fukushima is really close to Mt. Ontake. This mountain, where sits on the border of Nagano and Gifu prefectures, erupted unexpectedly on September 27, 2014. Many people died, and got injured in this disaster. In addition, some people is still missing in the mountain, because it has a lot of snow in winter season. The Mount Ontake eruption has become the worst volcanic disaster in Japanese postwar period.
There is some good ski resorts around Mt. Ontake. The Ontake 2240 ski resort where is most close the crater, has decided to cancel ski rifts operation. Another ski resorts have opened without any problems, however the number of skiers and snowboarders decreased.
I have been thinking, I'd like to support this area, more and more people should visit this area!
