The cold weather came to Japan last weekend, and it brought heavy snow over wide area of Japan. Unusually, we had a lot of snow in Kusatsu and Otsu in Shiga. Actually, A heavy snowfall warning had been issued in Shiga and Fukui, but we went to Kuzuryu ski resort in Fukui for powder snow. We left Kusatsu Saturday evening by my car. When we headed to Fukui, snow chains or straddles tires were required on highways due to the snow. We arrived at our hotel in Fukui without any troubles.
At around 7AM, we checked out of the hotel and headed to Kuzuryu ski resort. When we arrived at the ski resort it was cold, but it stopped snowing. It was a perfect day for enjoying deep powder snow, because yesterday more than 40cm of snow fell. And the weather was nice. Plus, only a couple of skiers and snowboarders were waiting for chair lifts to start. Unbelievable!! If this was in Hakuba, there would be many skiers and snow borders waiting in line for chair lifts. It looks like a kill-or-be-killed situation, I think. Kuzuryu was really a peaceful ski resort. We enjoyed deep powder in no-tracked ski runs.
