We went to Nozawa Onsen Ski resort last weekend. Nozawa Onsen is located north of the Nagano prefecture. It takes more than 6 hours by car from my home to get to Nozawa, but it takes only 4 hours by the JR express train. I think the JR train is best way to get there.
On Saturday, it was sunny all day. However the snow condition was pretty good, because the temperature was negative 10 degrees at the top of the mountain in the morning and cold air all day. We enjoyed the groomed ski runs.
While we were having dinner Saturday night, it was snowing outside. On Sunday morning, there was a lot of snow fall. There was a lot of snow on my car. I took 20 minutes to remove all snow off the car. After breakfast, we headed to Gondola station bottom. The Gondola lift starts operation at 8:40 every morning. When we arrived there, one hour before the operation, there were so many skies and snowboards at the entrance of the station. We were too late… When there is a lot of snowfall, it makes competition to get the Gondola lift, because everyone wants to ski first on the powdery snow. In fact we enjoyed deep powdery snow. It was amazing!
