Akashi 10/22

We went to Akashi in Hyogo prefecture two weeks ago. Akashi is located on the seaside in southern Hyogo prefecture and west of Kobe city. This city is famous for the Akashi Kaikyo bridge and octopus fishing. Last Tuesday was a national holiday and we got there by JR train “special rapid service”. It took 90 minutes and no change of train from Kusatsu to Akashi, so it was a nice train ride. In Akashi, we visited the Akashi Kaikyo bridge exhibition center and learned about bridge building technologies, the history of constructing the bridge by using videos, models and panel displays. They were interesting exhibitions and we learned a lot about the Akashi Kaikyo bridge, which is the longest the suspension bridge in the world. I’m proud of bridge building advanced technologies in Japan.

After the exhibition center we enjoyed Akashi-Yaki which looks like Tako-Yaki. You can enjoy Tako-Yaki with sauce and mayonnaise, but you enjoy Akashi-Yaki by dipping it into a soup with kelp and bonito. It is a local food in Akashi and it was nice. It was a one day trip in Akashi, but we had a great time there.
