Kokanee salmon

Kokanee salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) is a Salmonidae and fresh water fish. They inhabit the Hokkaido and Tohoku area. Lake Numasawa in Kaneyama is their only habitat in Fukushima prefecture. There fishing for Kokanee salmon is one of the main industries in Kaneyama. However, fishing there has been stopped since the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power station accident, because the Kokanee salmon in Lake Numasawa were contaminated by radionuclide substances. In 2011, the concentrations of radionuclide substances in Kokanee salmon over the standard level. Five years have passed since the Eastern Japan Earthquake of 2011. The fishing for Kokanee salmon in Lake Numasawa will restart this month, because the concentrations of radionuclide substances are lower than the standard level. It's really good news. I will join the ceremony of restart fishing in Kaneyama next week. I can't wait to enjoy the dishes of Kokanee salmon.
