Last week was a long weekend so I visited Obihiro in Hokkaido with my wife and her mother. Our trip started for Sapporo on Friday night with ANA airlines and the next morning we headed to Obihiro by JR express train. Obihiro is located east of Sapporo and you can get there with a two hours train ride. The main industry in Obihiro is agriculture because there is a huge flat area for asparagus, corn, sugar beet and potato. Thanks to the flat areas and mountains around there, you can enjoy a very beautiful landscape covered with snow in winter.
We stayed at a hotel with hot springs in downtown Obihiro two nights and visited a ski resort suburb of Obihiro by rental car. We visited Nukabira, Shintoku and Memuro ski resorts which are located about 40 minutes from downtown by car. They were not huge ski resorts, but the condition was pretty good because the temperature was kept low last weekend and there was a snow fall last Saturday. We enjoyed not only skiing, but also a nature in the national park, local foods, museums and sweets in Obihiro. I’d like to visit there again in other seasons someday.
