We stayed in Liverpool on the 13th of August and I woke up 5AM the next morning so I had a little jet lag. After taking breakfast in the hotel around 7AM, we headed to Liverpool Lime Street station. This station is one of the Liverpool terminal stations and we boarded the train for Warrington from there. After Warrington we caught the bus for Northwich and got off the bus at Anderton. This area was very country side like but I liked the atmosphere there. After a 5 minute walk we arrived at Anderton Boat Lift visitor center. In fact there are a lot of canals for boats in North England. A long time ago people carried some cargo like cotton, salt, tea and coal by boats however trucks carry them now. The Anderton Boat Lift was built in 1875 and used for boat lifts between the River Weaver and the Trent and Mersey canal. There is a vertical gap about 15.2m between these water ways. I was very surprised by this amazing mechanical engineering, plus this lift was built more than 100 years ago. Now this lift is registered on the National Heritage List for England. We had a unique experience because we joined a boat lift cruise and boat river cruise tour. The guide on the boat explained about boat lifts, the canals, and Anderton but his speaking in English was too fast for me to understand. I need to improve my hearing in English I guess.

After the Anderton Boat Lift we came back to Liverpool and picked up our baggage at the hotel. We headed to Liverpool Lime Street station again and waited for our train for London. The waiting room was pretty small in Liverpool but it wasn’t crowed. Actually we bought the England Rail Pass first class so this was our first time on the Virgin train first class. We boarded our train 20 minutes before departure and we relaxed on the first class seats in the train for London. This train run is about a 2 hour ride 360km from Liverpool to London and provided good seats and nice meals on the train. We arrived in London around 8PM and had a very good trip on the train.
