I was really surprised and shocked to hear that Ichiro Suzuki was released by the Seattle Mariners on May 3rd, 2018. Seattle announced that he won't play this season and becomes a special assistant to the chairman of the team. Plus, it was announced he is “not retiring”, a return next season is possible at the same time. It's really complicated for us. Is Ichiro retired or not? Formally he is not retiring, but virtually he is retired.
He played 9 years in NPB and then played 18 years in MLB. He is the best Japanese player in MLB. His career stats in the big league consist of .311, 3,089 hits and 117 home runs with 10 All Star games in 18 seasons. It's an amazing record. His batting, defense and runs made us very excited.
