On the next morning we headed to York by train and around 10 AM we arrived at York railway station which is located in North England and a 90 minute train ride from Manchester. There is a National Railway Museum nearby York railway station. In fact, the history of rail transport started in England about 200 years ago. In the Museum you can look around so many historic locomotives and rare cars including the Japanese bullet train, “Shinkansen”. This museum was absolutely amazing for us, plus I can’t believe this was free entry (of course donations welcomed).

After the National Railway Museum we headed to Keighley, a 1 hour train ride from York. Keighley railway station is the starting point for Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. This is a heritage railway between Keighley and Oxenhope with 6 stations and an 8km train line. This line was open in 1867 by the Midland Railway and closed in 1961. After 7 years being closed, Keighley and Worth Valley Railway reopened this line for sightseeing. Many people visit Haworth or Oxenhope by steam locomotive trains operated by this railway. We just boarded the steam train ride between Keighley and Oxenhope. It was a really rare and great experience because there is no heritage railway operated by steam locomotive in Japan. Keighley is really far from Japan, however I was feeling very satisfied with this visit.
